Inn at Crestwood, Boone NC: Charming, But Better for a Couples' Getaway

We stayed at Inn at Crestwood in Boone, NC with our one kiddo, who was still little enough for a pack-and-play. The check-in process is quaint and the "lobby" is cozy, it's very small, but extremely cute.

Overall this was not the most kid-friendly stay, but we made do. There's a green space in the back of the hotel that was big enough for our kiddo to run around in, though it wasn't fenced in, so that meant hands-on supervision the whole time, not a spot to relax while she played. Beyond that, the lobby wasn't childproofed and there wasn't much in the way of activities for a toddler.

There's a restaurant on property, but it was on the nicer side, so we ended up making it a date night instead, my gracious mother stayed in the room with our daughter so we could go. That worked out really well, but it's not the kind of place for a casual family dinner.

We brought our own pack-and-play rather than requesting one from the hotel. I've shown up to hotels before after being promised a pack-and-play only to have it not actually be there, which turns into a disaster of a night's sleep, so I didn't want to risk that here.

One night my husband ended up going to bed once our daughter was down around 7pm, just how these trips go sometimes.

We loved exploring the town of Boone. Next time, we'd probably pick a more family-friendly hotel for the actual stay, but Inn at Crestwood is one I'd absolutely go back to for a mom's weekend getaway. Still, a beautiful fall getaway overall.

• Is Inn at Crestwood good for families with young kids?

  Not really, no. It's a beautiful, quaint property, but it's better suited to a couples' getaway or a mom's weekend than a trip with a toddler.

  We brought our own rather than asking the hotel for one. We've been burned before by a hotel promising a pack-and-play that wasn't actually there at check-in, so we didn't want to risk it this time.

  Yes, we loved it. Boone is great for exploring outdoors, even if the hotel itself wasn't the most kid-friendly pick for us.
